Farther, Faster, Higher!

The annual DockDogs competition took place over the weekend.

If you are wondering what kind of a competition is DockDogs well......

.........according to their website :

"DockDogs® was born in 2000 to create a nationally recognized competitive sport based on rules and precedents in Track and Field competitions.  Much of DockDogs® Big Air Dog competitions’ popularity comes from having national standards and objective measures that allow people to train competitively and have objective feedback on their progress."

There are three different sporting disciplines in the DogDock competition:

Big Air – the first sport of DockDogs® and the most popular, this is the Long Jump of canine aquatics.
Extreme Vertical – introduced in 2005 it is considered the High Jump of canine aquatics.
Speed Retrieve – launched in 2008 this is a timed sport involving the combination of run, jump, swim and retrieve.

The one I attended this year was the Big Air competion. It is a lot of fun watching these dogs interact with their trainers during the competition. Some dogs can't wait to jump and retrieve, while others wish they were never registered for the competition.

The intensity in this fellow's eyes says it all.

This white beauty's eyes are locked on the ball.

And then we have this cute one, who could care less....

No amount of talking and hugging is going to change his mind.

Eventually, he had to be walked off the dock.

All in all a fun activity to watch and click away.

  1. Love it! My little, scruffy rescue rat terrier mix would have been a contender - he didn't need any encouragement to leap other than me being in the water!

    1. It's always fun to watch, even those that are all gung ho until they have to jump in. Our white German Shephard would have loved this activity to no end ( it wasn't available when he was alive). The idiot Shih Tzu we had....well he was an idiot but managed to control me for 14 years. ( wonder who was the real idiot). ;)

    1. There you go Gethin, something new and novel for you to pursue and get the community involved :). All you need is a big tank with a dock, water, and participants. I have no doubt finding participants would be the easy part.
