Macro! Week 9

"Macro photography is all about getting up close into the teeny tiny (technical term). It's about the intricate details of flowers, fabric, insects, and other small objects that often go unnoticed. It's about capturing tiny details in a beautiful way. Macro photography allows you to see the world in a whole new light.

Macro is a technical term generally implying a 1:1 ratio, but for the sake of our project, we are taking a looser approach and just inviting you to get as close as you can to something small."

Woolly Bear

 Spotted crawling around downtown Skagway.

Getting a couple of focused images was a challenge since it was wasting no time moving along.

"Spotted Tussock Moth Caterpillars can be found across southern Canada, in the western US, and in the Appalachians to South Carolina and Kentucky. Depending where you are at in their range their larvae can vary in appearance. Adults fly from May to July with the larvae being found from July to September. The caterpillars prefer to feed on leaves of poplar and willow, but will also feed on alder, basswood, birch, maple, and oak. Tussock moths get the name “tussock” from the tufts of hair on the caterpillar."

The Woolly Bear is the caterpillar stage of the Spotted Tussock Moth (Lophocampa maculata).

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, the Woolly Bear Caterpillar is a weather man of sorts.  Some believe that the width of the centre stripe of yellow can predict upcoming winter weather.

If the black stripes on each end are longer than the middle strip, the weather will be harsh. A wide centre band is wider we can expect a milder winter.

A Life Saved

Our pool is a magnet for all forms of creatures and this week was no exception.

I found this little creature floating and clinging for dear life.

Being a nice person that I "occasionaly" am, I chose to save his life.

I believe he knew that by me saving his life, he would somehow have to repay the good deed.

Repay me he did.

Posed for an endless photo shoot.

Life Saved

 I saved a life today.

The life of this little bug.

He had fallen in the pool and was drowning.

I was in the pool, scrubbing.

I know what he is, but his life was worth saving.

After all, a life saved is another opportunity to "click"🤣.
