I said there was more Boston to come, and here it is. I left off at the public library, with plenty of Boston still waiting to make it onto the blog. So here’s part two—a few more places, some street scenes, and a little background along the way. Dividing the post was easy. Leaving photographs out is still a work in progress.
Downtown Boston, just like other major cities such as Chicago and New York, has plenty going on—busy sidewalks, traffic, shops, and people with somewhere to be. Add the mix of old brick buildings, modern towers, people, and there’s no shortage of things to photograph. The challenge is walking more than a block without stopping.

Boston’s history isn’t all above ground. In 1897, it became the first city in the country to open a subway, moving streetcars underground to help unclog the busy streets. New York followed seven years later.
I recognized this gentleman’s technique right away—camera held low, quietly taking photographs without drawing attention. "Shooting from the hip", something I do myself. In fact, I was doing exactly that while photographing him. One street photographer catching another in the act.
I do wonder whether I ended up in his collection, too.😂
By the way, the Boston subway is one of the cleanest subways I have seen in this country.
Also, just to feed your curiosity, let me throw this number out: 105,167. That’s the number of steps I took walking from one end of Boston to the other. So you can understand how I ended up with this many photographs.
And if you’re wondering what kept me stopping along the way, here’s a little more of it..........

That wraps up Boston—two posts, 105,167 steps, and more photographs than I planned to share. Between the buildings, the streets, and the people, there was always something worth stopping for. Thanks for coming along. At least your feet didn’t have to do the work.
