Morton Arboretum- Scarecrow Exhibit

If you have never been to the Morton Arboretum it is definitely a site to be seen and a site to be experienced.

Morton Arboretum is located in Lisle, Illinois.

"It is a public garden and outdoor museum with a library, herbarium, and program in tree research including the Center for Tree Science. Its grounds, covering 1,700 acres (6.9 square kilometres), include cataloged collections of trees and other living plants, gardens, and restored areas, among which is a restored tallgrass prairie. The living collections include more than 4,100 different plant species. There are more than 220,000 cataloged plants."

But besides being an internationally recognized botanical garden, the arboretum is also a place to hike,(16 miles of trails) ride bikes, run or drive (nine miles of paved roads) and even cross country ski (when the ground have four or more inches of snow).

As if that is not enough activity for one location, the arboretum also has exhibits throughout the year. Some of those exhibits are short termed (depending on the month) others last for a couple of years.

During the month of October a reacuring exhibit is the scarecrow exhibit. More than 40 colorful scarecrows, many designed and built by area Girl Scout troops, are on display.

I did not see all forty scarecrows, because my aim for this particualr visit was to see the "long term" exhibit. But I must add that on this day I walked 11 miles to see all that I could see at the arboretum, and I did not see all.

Next post......long term exhibition.
