I believe this guy loves hanging around our house. I have seen him or his twin brother every day for the last few weeks.
He seems to like eating sunflower seeds, therefore I fill the feeder on a regular basis.
Today, the wind was ferocious but he decided to hang around, and I decided to take a few portraits, long distance.
My favorite bird - loved them since I was 6 years old. Followed one when I was 8 for over 6 hours through the woods to see where he went - my beginnings as a naturalist and a biologist. They are VERY territorial, like mockingbirds, and have very distinct personalities. If you have tomatoes, they will eat every tomato horn worm that ever attacks your plants. You a lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteI am totally in awe this year because to me they or he ( not sure if it's the same one each time or...) has the deepest color I have ever seen. The color you see in the photos is their actual color, no enhacments done on my part.
DeleteBeautiful shots, Camellia!
ReplyDeleteThank you Tom 😊
DeleteGreat shots. He looks like he is posing for you. Your reward for the seeds? A very proud bird.
ReplyDeleteI guess that is another way of looking at it. I am always in awe when I see him. He is sooooo bright and red and then when his wife comes along, she is really pale against him hence, not really "click" worthy. 😉
