La Cruz, Costa Rica- The View

In Pre-Columbian times the area currently known as the canton de La Cruz, was part of a province of the Indians called Chorotegas whose domains ranged from the Nicoya Peninsula to Lake Nicaragua, made up of several villages or domains. The region was discovered by Don Gil Gonzalez Davila in 1522, on their march to another province of the Chorotegas, which was under the authority of the chief of the Nicarao people (in the territory now known as Nicaragua).
In the second half of the nineteenth century, the first farmers from Rivas, Nicaragua came to this region, beginning the formation of ranches.
This area became part of Nicaragua until 1812 when it was given to Costa Ricaso that Costa Rica would have sufficient population to be represented in a colonial Spanish government which was administered from Guatemala. Although there was a movement to give it back to Nicaragua after independence, a divided vote among the population decided that Guanacaste would stay with Costa Rica.
One of the attractions in La Cruz is the sceneic viewpoint, known as the Mirardos La Cruz. The view is enchanting!
It is a natural viewpoint where you can observe the entire Salinas Bay or Puerto Soley and much of Nicaragua territory, this is a spectacular panoramic view where you are seeing the Pacific Ocean, lush vegetation and beauty.

Salinas bay is located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Central America, between Costa Rica and Nicaragua . The bay serves as a natural boundary between the two countries, the border being marked by an astronomical line that starts from the Costa Rican Sapoá River to the center of Salinas Bay. The section that belongs to Costa Rica is located in the extreme northwest of the canton of La Cruz , Guanacaste province , while the part that belongs to Nicaragua is located southwest of Rivas. To the south of the border line, within the bay, there is an archipelago of islands that belong to Costa Rica: the archipelago of the Murcielago Islands and the Bolaños Island , which are natural wildlife refuges administered by the Santa Rosa National Park . Bahía Salinas has a great marine biodiversity, and is also a local fishing area through Puerto Soley.

El Mirador Cultural and Tourist Center has the best panoramic view of Salinas Bay in the entire canton of La Cruz, in Guanacaste. But graffiti on the walls, the falling ceiling, stagnant water and mold cloud the landscape.

January 14, 2019, work to improve the infrastructure of the El Mirador Tourist and Cultural Center in La Cruz was supposed to begin. The work included improvements to the building's infrastructure such as floors, walls, ceilings and roof. In addition to the electrical and mechanical system, which include lighting and sanitary services. The cost of the improvements reaches ₡ 45,000,000 ($70,094).

As of December 2021, the building was still in disarray.

  1. Beautiful views! Sad about the visitor center, but then again, the same fate has befallen many national and state park facilities here, as well.
